Champs!

Congrats to the Celtics - World Champs.

Congrats to Boston - my beloved "other" hometown and center of the sports world once again.

Celebrate and be safe!!!

Colleges and Universities for $1000

Answer: Contrary to its name, this school is located in Chestnut Hill, MA. It is actually a university.

Question: What is Boston College?

This was the second time I saw that question on "Jeopardy." The first time it was for Final Jeopardy, and last night it was a featured Daily Double. The guy didn't get it. You know me- I just love the attention for my Alma mater!

Good-bye Tim

It's always a difficult thing to say good-bye- even if it is someone we have never met. Yesterday when I heard the news, my first reaction was- how sad, his son just graduated from BC. Because of this strange connection through the BC community, this loss hit me really hard. He was a great supporter of all things BC. You could often see him at BC sporting events and on his show he would show BC hats or the "Ryan for Heisman" shirt as seen above. Last night and this morning I watched so many of his friends pay tribute to his life and career. I am not at all interested in politics and have never watched "Meet the Press," but it was with a very heavy heart that I watched people I like - Matt Lauer, Campbell Brown, Tom Brokaw - struggle with their own personal sadness while keeping that "stiff upper lip." I add my condolences to his family and to all who loved him. He will be missed.
Another blog I read about BC sports has a nice collection of BC related pictures and video. You should check it out. Especially take a minute (well, 4) to watch the video of him and his son trying to secure BC v. Duke tickets (it was sort of a big deal!). Click here to go to ATLEagle.

BEAT LA or Notes from a Frontrunner

Two quick Boston Sports notes before I run off to scrapbook.

First- Congrats to Manny Ramirez on hitting his 500th homerun last night in a win (yay) over Baltimore. I think I heard he's the 24th in MLB history to accomplish this. Way to go Manny!

Second- Congrats to the Celtics for making it to the NBA finals. I'm not going to pretend that all of a sudden I'm some big Celtics fan. Let's face it- I'm just not a basketball fan. However- I do want good things for my second hometown, so of course I've been cheering for the Celtics. My dear brother asked my dad if he and I had become front runners in cheering for the Celts. To Brian I have this response- our Grandpa McCormick was a Boston native. Grew up in Natick- one town over from where I used to teach. Also home of BC hero Doug Flutie! He was a Sox fan back in the days of Ted Williams. He was also a huge Celtics fan back in the day. This whole Boston thing- it's in my blood! I remember every year when the Celtics came to town that we would take my grandpa to the Kings v. Celts game. Since I have been back in Sac, my dad has made sure to secure the Celts tickets every year when dividing the season tickets. So there's always been some kind of interest. Besides- I grew up a Laker fan- that meant I had to hate the Celts. But then the Kings/ Lakers rivalry started and Kobe came along and I had to hate the Lakers. So my fond hatred of the Lakers leads back to cheering for the Celts (got that?). So anyway - call me a front runner if you must, but really, who else would I cheer for?

Ok- everyone say it with me: BEAT LA! BEAT LA! BEAT LA! BEAT LA!
